This program provides assistance for low-income families in the private rental market through a Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) contract. Voucher holders select a unit from the private rental market within Macon County. Program participants normally pay no more than 30% of their gross income for rent. The Authority subsidizes the balance of the rent to the landlord.
DHA administers approximately 1,123 vouchers. Per policy, the family must provide proof of residency in Macon County for the previous 12 months before the voucher is transferrable to anywhere in the United States. However, the transfer is only approved based on current funding.
It is the policy of the Housing Authority to comply fully with all Federal, State, and local nondiscrimination laws and with the rules and regulations governing Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity in housing and employment.
DHA shall not deny any family or individual the equal opportunity to apply for or receive assistance under the Housing Choice Voucher Program on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, creed, national or ethnic orgin, age, familial, maritial status, handicap or disability or sexual orientation.
